CONSTABLE DAVID WHITLOCK INDICTED

RENEGADE JEFFERSON COUNTY CONSTABLE DAVID WHITLOCK FINALLY INDICTED: It’s about time folks but just the tip of the iceberg for this guy’s shenanigans. Everything from fake id’s to fake certificates of training from his own self board, there is so much more to this story that legitimate law enforcement just has not dealt with. Who actually thinks he will get jail time if convicted of felony behavior again? Don’t hold your breath (Whitlock indicted)

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT SCORE ONE FOR MITT ROMNEY: Last night’s debate should have been labeled comic relief. Watching Newt Gingrich fall apart when tested(as usual), while he and Romney played follow the leader in Ron Paul, you know the guy they say isn’t electable, was funny. Throw in crybaby Santorum and we have to wonder just why mainstream is scared of Ron Paul. Based on the way these clowns were acting they should get serious about this race. (GOP Debate)

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR SHIP IS BIGGER THAN THE UPCOMING BRIDGE? Try to go through it of course. Two spans of the Eggner Ferry Bridge, which carries U.S. 68 and Ky. 80 over Kentucky Lake, were destroyed Thursday night by the Delta Mariner. One has to wonder just who Captains these boats anyway. A cruise liner beaches, because he can’t see he is too close to the beachhead, to now this boat not being able to see a low hanging bridge that has existed since the 1930′s. Head-Desk-repeat. (Courier)

FORMER COUNCILWOMAN JULIE RAQUE ADAMS FILES FOR SENATE. This should be welcome news to the GOP Senate majority as Raque Adams is the GOP’s version of a liberal in KY. After playing like a conservative on Louisvile’s Metro Council but voting liberal all the way. Apparently Raque Adams thinks she is relevant enough to move from the House where she fits right in to the Senate where she has no chance of anything. (Phillip Bailey)

THINK I’M LYING ABOUT RAQUE ADAMS? Think again. A conservative doesn’t tell private businesses what they can do with legal products. Raque Adams believes she should police the world. In Kentucky anyway. (smoking bans)

REDISTRICTING NEEDS TO GET OUT OF THE HANDS OF ELECTED OFFICIALS NOW. Seriously. The Democratic controlled House decides to redistrict in favor of the Democrats eliminating some GOP districts. Not to be outdone the Republican controlled Senate decides to get even and redistrict the Senate to favor Republicans. The biggest problem? Neither is constitutional and the only ones who suffer are we the people as usual. It is way past time to have an independent agency decide these issues for us so the elected children can go play somewhere else. (WFPL)

ROMNEY POUNCES, GINGRICH SCARED

Interesting differences in tonight’s debate

There were a couple of noticeable differences in tonight’s CNN debate. Some were visual, some were rhetorical. The most visible change I noticed was that the arrangement of the candidates on stage was different from past debates. As usual Rick Santorum was on the far left of the stage (kind of fitting actually) but Newt Gingrich was directly to the right, then MItt Romney, and finally Ron Paul.

Why was this significant? Perhaps it wasn’t, but Ron Paul and Rick Santorum were in their usual spots on stage so why flip-flop Romney and Gingrich? Was it perhaps because Santorum has been doing the majority of the attacking against Romney recently and CNN needed a buffer? Was it because everyone knows that Santorum is working with Gingrich so this was a symbol of their relationship?

Who knows but it was one small noticeable difference.

Romney pounced and Gingrich couldn’t handle it

Clearly Mitt Romney has improved his debate performance since Tuesday night’s NBC performance and it was never clearer than when he went after Newt Gingrich repeatedly and the Grinch couldn’t handle it. As usual when confronted a bully will typically back off, dodge, and deflect. This is typical Newt behavior and it was clear almost immediately. Read more…

NEWT GINGRICH IS THE CLASSIC CON MAN

Newt Gingrich is a classic case

Con Man- A con artist, or a person who uses a fraud method known as a confidence trick.

Confidence trick- an attempt to defraud a person or group by gaining their confidence. A confidence artist is an individual working alone or in concert with others who exploits characteristics of the human psyche such as dishonesty and honesty, vanity, compassion, credulity, irresponsibility, naivety and greed.

Once again last night, during the NBC GOP Presidential primary debate, it was abundantly clear that GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich lives in his own reality. Gingrich is proving to be a stalwart at the art of deception by using psychobabble and playing fast and loose with the facts of his dismal record of failure. There can be no doubt of this after an exchange between Romney and Gingrich.

Romney goes on the attack

Take this lead in from Mitt Romney for example.

Romney made it clear that he will finally go on the attack against Gingrich by pointing out the flaws of Gingrich himself including pointing out that Gingrich was ousted as Speaker in 1998. The problem is Romney just is too robotic to be effective. Meanwhile check out the Gingrich response below.

Gingrich response to Romney

The reality is so much different. Newt Gingrich did resign in 1998 as Speaker of the House but not for the altruistic reasons he would lead one to believe. Newt was disgraced and reprimanded for ethics violations and was forced to resign or face involuntary removal proceedings.

This is a classic example of misdirection and what we know Gingrich is good at. Misdirection is a form of deception in which the attention of an audience is focused on one thing in order to distract its attention from another. And so far for Newt at least it appears to be working to some degree.

Newt may be a classic example of someone who runs a shell game. Read more…

CHRIS THIENEMAN FILES FOR 37TH DISTRICT SENATE SEAT

Chris Thieneman in the race for 37TH State Senate District seat

Thieneman for 37th District Senate Seat

Fresh off his victory in Valley Station by finally getting a Cracker Barrel Olde Time Country store there, Real Estate Developer, and former Mayoral candidate Chris Thieneman, today filed his papers to run for the newly vacated 37th Senate District seat. Due to the Senate redistricting map changes, current Senator Perry Clark was moved from the 37th District and into the 35th District now occupied by State Senator Denise Harper Angel.

Many in the 37th District are familiar with Chris Thieneman through his Real estate business, and activist work in the Valley Station community.

Thieneman accomplishments

Thieneman has involved himself in many fights through the years on behalf of residents and the community. Some of which are:

  • His hard-fought win against the library tax proposal by former Mayor Jerry Abramson. Chris has also been active in the community working to expose MSD, corrupt officials, and many other things.
  • He also forced the administration to reopen the Southfields police training facility for bids that netted the City roughly $250,000 more dollars by forcing an open bid process.
  • His 8 year battle to bring Cracker Barrel to Valley Station.

No stranger to fighting this strong-arm form of Metro Government Chris is also making this a part of his platform. Thieneman states, “in order to make the changes Metro government desperately needs, and make sure all voices are heard, primarily the Southwest portion of Jefferson County, we need someone in Frankfort who can elevate the discussion and not be ignored.” Read more…

LOTTERY INVESTMENT OR FANTASY

KENTUCKY MAY CONSIDER CASINO GAMBLING THIS YEAR

Thanks to Kentucky’s Governor Beshear voters may have another chance to vote on an expanded gaming amendment this year. Without question just about any measure that goes to a vote will pass without much thought from the voters. However please take a few seconds and think before voting yes or no. Gaming will come to Kentucky but at what cost?

The eTrade Baby probably has more insight than we do these days.

SPRINGSTON JOINS WAVE3 EDITORIAL STAFF

It is with great pleasure that I announce I am the newest member of the WAVE3 TV editorial staff. Since running for Mayor in 2006 I made a conscious decision to work to better my community by becoming actively involved in the day-to-day running of it.

This has led to my becoming a radio show host, author, and activist in the community. None of which would be possible without each and every one of you supporting me along the way. MyViewMatters (MVM) exists because you asked for it.

Yep Ed Springston now goes mainstream in Louisville, KY. To a degree anyway.

WAVE3 news is now taking the lead in local news reporting by including a non mainstream voice to help shape the discussions of the day. Make no mistake I am who I am 24 hours a day and will not waver from that commitment to each of you.

Need proof that WAVE3 is leading the way?

While other mainstream news sites, both print and TV, have had problems acknowledging the efforts of non MSM news sources like myself, WAVE3′s General Manager and Vice President Ken Selvaggi, has embraced the concept. He has recognized that the 21st Century offers a new way to get your message heard.

After leading the way on the major stories of the last few years; Jim King, Katie King, Judy Green, MSD, Constable David Whitlock, and Eric Garrett to name a few, it is becoming more and more clear that non MSM sources are doing the hard work that MSM just cannot do anymore.

It is an honor to be asked to be part of the solution by WAVE3.

WAVE3′s Ken Selvaggi has just upped the ante in the quest for real news reporting.

Though Mr. Selvaggi writes his own editorials (believe it or not he really does), he does so with the input and help from the editorial staff. We at MVM have had our ear to the ground and are in touch with the daily news that affects each of our lives and we bring a great deal of credibility to the table.

Now we bring a voice to be reckoned with to the table as well.

Many thanks to Mr. Selvaggi for having the courage to lead instead of follow. Many thanks to each of you for making MVM a part of your daily experience. You are the ones who challenged me to get involved and you are the ones who are responsible for the new mindset in mainstream.

I will continue to do what I do each day only now we have another outlet.

WAVE3 news.

Stay tuned folks. You haven’t seen anything yet.

8 YEARS IN THE MAKING: CRACKER BARREL GETS A GO IN VALLEY STATION

Louisville, KY - After 8 years in the making a new Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is coming to Valley Station next to the Gene Snyder Freeway in Southwest Louisville. Chris and Tom Thieneman of Thieneman Real Estate made the announcement at a press conference and ground breaking ceremony this morning at 10 am.

Bob Heuglin,a manager with Thieneman Real Estate, and current Candidate for Metro Council District 14, gave all the credit to the Thienemans for not giving up on the project, “Because of the endeavors of the Thieneman family, who didn’t give up on the project, I’m glad this day has finally arrived….We’ve been positive all along and never gave up.”

Chris Thieneman stated, “We’re happy to bring thsi great restaurant to to Valley Station. We believe that because of the quality of Cracker Barrel, this will attract even more high quality businesses. It’s going to be great for Valley Station to get a Cracker Barrel, because it’s something residents have wanted for years.”

Vice President of Real Estate for Cracker Barrel, Jim Torcivia said that the new restaurant is in an ideal location. “We look forward to providing an excellent Cracker Barrel experience for people who already know us, and for new guests as well.”

Thieneman Real estate was established more than 50 years ago and is a leading developer focused  on commercial, residential, and industrial development primarily in the South end areas of Shively, PRP, Iroquois, and Valley Station.

The Thieneman Company is among the largest real estate companies in Louisville with majority ownership held by Chris and Tom Thieneman.

The restaurant is being built on six acres of land at Dixie Highway and Bethany Lane.

Eight years ago the buzz began about a Cracker Barrel possibly moving into the Valley Station corridor and was met with strife and problems brought about reportedly by current Metro Councilman Bob Henderson and the idea was shelved for years. Despite the setbacks, the Thieneman’s never gave up on the idea of Cracker Barrel.

At times it seemed it would not get done and now officially is regardless of Henderson and others.

Cracker Barrel has a great reputation of attracting other business investment and expansion in nearby areas and should be a positive for the area. Cracker Barrel was established in 1969 in Lebanon, TN and currently operates 608 company-owned locations in 42 states.

With “down home” cooking menu favorites of Cracker Barrel such as meat loaf, chicken n’ dumplings, as well as homemade biscuits made from scratch, Cracker Barrel is a natural fit for Valley Station and should bring opportunities to the area that were not available before.

Thieneman was quick to give thanks to Cracker Barrel and all those involved in making this project happen. They include Flynn brothers, who will be the general contractor and were on hand for the ground breaking ceremony, and Stockyards Bank, also on hand for the ground breaking ceremony and will be financing the project.

Cracker Barrel is slated to open in July 2012.

WHISTLEBLOWER ERIC GARRET SETTLES FOR $315,000

During the Christmas season a little thing went by unnoticed by most. i was the one who outed the story and continued it throughout the case. The story? Whistleblower Eric Garrett is vindicated.
How so? The City, we the taxpayer, just paid Garrett $315,000 for a settlement to end the case in late December.

This really was a no brainer and you can follow the case yourself through this link. The disturbing part of all this is the fact that nothing has been done to Betty Younis or Ted Pullen, the Director of Public Works. In fact I can find no mention of even something as simple as a disciplinary letter to both for their poor handling of this case.

This case was preventable by applying the simplest rules of dealing with employees, yet Younis decided to make this a personal grudge match against an upstanding employee such as Garrett. Why did she choose to do this?

Perhaps because in January 2010, Garrett complained about management’s treatment of another maintenance worker still under probation, who was Betty Younis’ assistant’s son, whom Younis hired. This worker was allowed more rope than anyone could imagine.

Management was informed of such conduct that included disabling his portable radio so that he could slip away from work early, riding his girlfriend around downtown in Metro vehicles which he did not have to sign out for his own use, releasing tear gas on other workers, reporting an imaginary boa constrictor in the Hall of Justice parking garage (Younis hired an exterminator to investigate and set traps and paid overtime for Metro workers thus costing the taxpayers unnecessary money), as well as threatening violence against Eric Garrett himself (signed statements by two maintenance workers reporting this threat were provided to Betty Younis).

It really is no surprise when you look at the history of Younis and her boss Ted Pullen.

All the players involved have baggage and ties to the former Mayor Jerry Abramson machine and his political appointees and that folks is/was the problem.

Let’s look at those involved. Read more…

WHY LA CLUB OWNERS ARE LOST……SOME ADVICE

The following is an op-ed piece by Musician Dave Goldberg at www.davegoldberg.com

Why LA club owners are totally lost and some advice for them from a professional musician.

As I’ve been looking for gigs lately, I’ve never seen so many free and low paying gigs. Well the economy is bad, so I can understand that a little bit. However, it is no longer good enough for the musician to be willing to perform for little compensation. Now we are expected to also be the venue’s promoter. The expectations are that the band will not only provide great music, but also bring lots of people to their venue. It is now the band’s responsibility to make this happen, not the club owner.

Just the other day I was told by someone who owned a wine bar that they really liked our music and would love for us to play at their place. She then told me the gig paid $75 for a trio. Now $75 used to be bad money per person, let alone $75 for the whole band. It had to be a joke, right? No she was serious. But it didn’t end there. She then informed us we had to bring 25 people minimum. Didn’t even offer us extra money if we brought 25 people. I would have laughed other than it’s not the first time I’ve gotten this proposal from club owners. But are there musicians really doing this? Yes. They are so desperate to play, they will do anything. But lets think about this for a second and turn this around a little bit.

What if I told the wine bar owner that I have a great band and we are going to play at my house. I Read more…

LOUISVILLE KY FACING BUDGET CRUNCH (AGAIN)

According to Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer we are now facing a $12.5 million shortfall in this year’s budget, with a projected shortfall of $2.5 million per month in next year’s. That would put us on pace for a $30 million budget shortfall next year for those doing the math. This is not anything new and has become an annual event has it not?

In recent years, under former Mayor Jerry Abramson, we saw budget shortfalls as much as $25 million and that shortfall was usually covered with “one time monies” as this year’s budget will be. It is amazing how we continue to find these “one time moniess” each year isn’t it?

The fundamental problem is that nothing lasting is being done to correct this fiscal imbalance. We continue to use these so-called “one time monies” without fixing the problems inherent in our local government. In the Courier today Fischer is quoted as saying:

“To balance this budget, we must find millions of dollars to cut — not over years, but within months,” Fischer said, according to a copy of his speech given to The Courier-Journal before the event. “We have to look at everything.”

We have heard this story many times from the Democratic leadership in Louisville yet what has been done?

This from Fischer as well:

Fischer mentioned during the speech several “tough questions” his administration has to ask in the face of the budget crisis:

•  How can the city reduce overtime, currently running at $22.7 million a year? Fischer has ordered a review of overtime policies and spending.

•  Can the city continue to fund pension programs and health care plans the same way and at the same level it has? Can the city afford the “generous” sick leave plan that it currently has? Fischer said the programs are “way out of line compared to private programs.”

•  Can the city continue to support non-government agencies

The answer to all of the above are obvious to most of us but we expect no one in Government will do their job to fix the problems. I think we could add one more to the list myself.

We could eliminate much from the Metro Council itself could we not?

Does each Council member really need access to a couple hundred thousand dollars apiece for their discretionary use? Let’s not forget the stories outing the luxuries of some Council members and their lavish spending.

Nor should we forget the scandals costing us thousands of dollars in Metro Departments such as the Kimberly Bunton scandal or Judy Green. Read more here on these stories {Springston}

Add in the overemployment of Metro itself and the double dipping etc….well you get the point.

When we get sunshine and accountability all Departments then we can begin to fix the problems.

Greg Fischer goes on to state that “I commit to you that Louisville will not end up like Birmingham, Las Vegas, or Detroit — cities that have declared bankruptcy or are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy because tough decisions weren’t made years ago.”

And who was making those decisions years ago? Former Louisville Mayor and current Lt Governor Jerry Abramson. Now Abramson is “working” with Gov Steve Beshear on our State budget? How did we the people let that happen.

As we know, Birmingham, Alabama (Jefferson County) filed the largest Municipal bankruptcy in history based largely on their outstanding MSD debt and junk financing. ALL of which were outed by yours truly over the last several years while mainstream was busy ignoring the problem and giving Abramson a free pass.

I contend we can do so much better with our Council dollars that we can start righting this ship by gaining accountability. Want more?

Eliminate the ease with which the Council doles out money for their own gain, primarily Democrats, and you can begin the process of fixing the problems. Get rid of the double dippers, audit each agency for effectiveness, eliminate half the staff of the Mayor, consolidate Departments, change retirement rules and voila we will save a heck of a lot more than the current shortfalls this Mayor and his predecessor keep selling us.

The Commonwealth is in a free fall financially thanks largely to the golden parachutes the Democrats have given us through the years, with minority Republican approval of course. Billions of dollars owed to a retirement system that will become insolvent, political cronyism alive and well with unnecessary Government job appointments, and you get the picture.

Throw on top of that the feds are broke and can’t help aid anyone right now either, where do we turn to?

They say all politics are local. It is past time we take a serious look within our local political structure and make the tough hard choices Mayor Fischer says he is facing. Force this Council and this Mayor into total accountability. The days of lip service are gone.

With no one to depend on at the State or Federal level it is high time we made the significant changes necessary here in Louisville to learn how to depend on ourselves……
